Having problems with your Gateway GT5220 PC Desktop ?
Answers :
On my model, there is a broad recessed area on the top of the case.
On the left-hand side of this area (as you face the front), there is a 3-inch-wide, grooved-surfaced latch that must be pressed inward (to your left) to free the left panel. If you are facing the left side of the unit, pressing this latch inward by grabbing the top of the panel as if you were going to pull it off by force naturally presses in the latch, opening the case.
If you're not seeing the latch, note that the top half of the front can be covered by a rotating015012cover that covers the drive bays. When it is not covering the front, this rotating cover flips up and015012around, coming to rest on the top of the unit in the broad recessed015012area.
When this cover is flipped up and stored at the top of the unit, the case latch is hidden and not pressable. Flip the cover back down so that it's covering the drives, and you're good to go.

- 015012
- First unplug your machine 015012
- Press power button to ensure all power is gone (any surge or electricity can destroy RAM memory) 015012
- While facing the front of the tower, locate 2 large bolts on the back left edge.
- Remove these bolts and look for a small indentation on the left side panel. (if none is found it's not a problem but most machines have some sort of indentation)
- Press against left side panel while sliding the panel backward 015012
- Once open, lay tower down
- You should see 4 slots running north and south with 2 RAM sticks in them 015012
- New RAM memory chips/sticks click into the slots (ensure you feel a click or the memory isn't seated) 015012
- ADVISORY: Although your machine is rated for 4GB of RAM, unless you are running a 64bit system (most systems are 32bit) you won't be able to utilize all 4GB. For 32 bit systems you may find that 3GB is the limit (www.crucial.com) 015012
- Once new memory is installed, reverse entire procedure and plug in the machine. 015012
- On first boot in the black screen, you should see the new memory being identified. If you get a memcheck error it means you've probably placed more RAM memory than the machine can handle.
