I ran across this book while looking at review on Shusengbar and thought it look super cute. I wanted to try translating a simple office romance book to check out the pace compare to the other books I am trying out. I hope I am not taking on more than I can take on. Today is my first day of work, the weather is great, and so am I.
Prior to this, in Su’s words, what happened was me getting some “fucking shitty luck, got stuck to a donut” I somehow passed through all the difficulties of AC company famous interview, and became a rookie in the legal department.
The company has a staff uniform, a white dress shirt, an A-line skirt and a jacket, but it was not mandatory to wear. But I liked this uniform, as the dress shirt design of the waist and chest were both well done, as it revealed what should be there, and covered up what should not be, while not being overly exposed or stiffed. Unlike most professional monotone office attire, the skirt had a butterfly bow tie at the waist of the same colour, adding to the freshness of a newhire and still able to keep to the formality of an uniform.It was said that this uniform was personally selected by president of the AC corporation, and in my subconscious mind I have develop a favorable opinion of this Boss that I have yet to meet.
I stood in front of the mirror and looked at my high spirit, full of self confident.
For a while, Su leaned against the wall, turned back into the room, she came out with a cup of water, and when she open the palm of her hand she held a small pill.
“What is this?” I asked.
“A sedative. Take it.”
“Why would I take this? I am going to work. Puh-lease, you want me to fall asleep?”
Sue said only five words: “Christmas day of last year.”
Last Christmas was an instant classic that began like a comedy, with the middle as a sad story, and concluded like a tradegy. Then I understood: When I am feeling “high”, there will always be unexpected actions, what follow next would lead to a series of tragic events.
“But……” I was still hesitant, I did not want to be sleepy during the boss’ speech.

“Rest assured, this dose will not make you sleepy, it will only make you calm.”
I swallowed the pills at ease and happily went out.
On the way to work, the whole journey was smooth, it was not even 8:00 am, yet I was already out of the subway station. Although it was still early, I decided to go take a short cut through an alley leading to AC building.
The alley leading to the office is meandering and winding, with very few other pedestrians. Before officially entering the company, training with me during the short training period together with my team was Luo Luo and Peter, Peter often go on this route. In Peter’s words, this path is “suitable for murder, arson, and discuss romance “. As I was thinking of Peter’s words I could not help but to look down and chuckled, the moment I looked up, indeed I saw a couple by the side of the road.
The man was in his early thirty age, gray suit with no necktie, his shirt was unbuttoned his chest flung open. The woman’s hair piled up high, a yellow dress, leaning on a black car, while the man confined her within his embrace.
I took one look, and was ready to walk away. Hah of course, the weather was perfect, why not have a romantic entanglement underneath the moon, must not waste this wonderfully accomodating narrative.
And as I was wishing this couple the best of time in my mind, I heard a piercing roar.
“Why, why did you leave me! Because of you, I strive to get to this day, but… what does he have that I have not?”
In astonishment I looked back, and then I started looking everywhere for the cameras and the onlookers, but I saw nothing. Therefore I ended up looking at the handsome guy in the suit with surprised, one hundred percent certain, that a raging demon had taken over his soul…
The handsome man thought the same.
“Why, why! I used to be just a player, fresh meat at every port. Then I met you. You stole my heart, I changed everything for you, gave you everything, but you don’t want me. Don’t go, don’t leave me!” He shouted hoarsely, all the while with both hands on the woman’s shoulder, shaking her in hard rocking classic action.
I was really worried about that woman fragile neck.
Then, like a lady, stunned and with grace, it was I – who ran into the electrical pole.

As I was holding my aching head in my hands, I accidentally bumped into a car parked on the roadside. The car alarm rang, the sudden sharp sound in a small lane seemed very awkward. The man’s rationale seems to somewhat come back, he turned his head and ferociously glared at me.
Puh-lease, could you try any harder than this? Although my head was ringing, my mood was good, so very good. Laugh, let us laugh, no matter how awkward I seemed, I was no worst than you.
So in a blink of an eye, be it destiny, be it fable, be it random chance of unknown origin, I stretched out my hand and waved “Hey pretty boy, you keep at it, go hard!”
See, Su’s pill did not work at all.
The man made no more sound, took off his glasses. The woman pulled out a piece of tissue from the car and handed it to him, they quietly entered the next phase of Qiong Yao drama.
In the elevator, I met Luo Lou. I stalled her, telling the story of the “rookie small white-collar first work day chance encounter with the roaring pretty boy”.
Before the orientation meeting, when I had told the the truncated version of the story for the fifth time, Luo Luo finally can no longer endured it and stared at me and I asked: “did you knocked yourself stupid, your entire head is scraped yet you continue to be so happy.”

“Without a doubt, think about it, ‘live roaring, I saw it live! How often in life do I get to experience this.” as I pulled a few strands of hair to cover up the bruises on my forehead, I re-enacted the pretty boy’s gestures.
At this moment, Peter turned around to remind me: “Hey, quiet, the boss is about to speak.”

Within the midst of applause a refined handsome man stood on the podium high above.
That moment, my tragedy began…
